App Review and iPhone Duo screenshots
App Review checks iPhone Duo screenshots by the same rules as any other screenshots. They must show your app in use (Guideline 2.3.3) and accurately reflect what the app does (Guideline 2.3). Your submission must also be final, with no placeholder content (Guideline 2.1(a)). The App Review Guidelines have no rules written only for iPhone Duo.

The rules that apply
| Guideline | What it says | What it means for iPhone Duo |
|---|---|---|
| 2.3 Accurate Metadata | Screenshots and previews must "accurately reflect the app's core experience" and stay up to date with new versions | The inner display shots must show the layout your app really has when unfolded |
| 2.3.3 | Screenshots "should show the app in use, and not merely the title art, login page, or splash screen". Text and image overlays are allowed | A set of splash or login screens doesn't count, on either display |
| 2.3.7 | Screenshots "should not include prices, terms, or descriptions that are not specific to the metadata type" | No "$4.99" or "Free trial" in captions |
| 2.1(a) App Completeness | Submissions must be final versions; "placeholder text, empty websites, and other temporary content should be scrubbed" | No lorem ipsum, test data or debug screens in the shots |
| 2.3.10 | No names, icons or imagery of other mobile platforms in metadata | No Android foldables in frames or comparisons |

Where the risk is with iPhone Duo
| Risk | Why it breaks a rule | How to avoid it |
|---|---|---|
| A mockup of a layout the app doesn't have | Inner display shows a two-column layout, but the app just stretches the phone layout. That breaks 2.3: the screenshot doesn't reflect the app | Capture the real app on the iPhone Duo simulator |
| Outer screenshots scaled to the inner display size | The aspect ratios differ (1398 × 2034 vs 2007 × 2853), so the result is stretched or padded and isn't what users see unfolded | Shoot each display separately. See sizes |
| Only splash, onboarding or login screens | 2.3.3 | Show the main features with real content |
| Placeholder or test content | 2.1(a) | Use a clean demo account with realistic data |
| Prices or "free" in captions | 2.3.7 | Keep captions about features |
Frames and captions are fine. 2.3.3 allows text and image overlays. The screen inside the frame must still be your real app.
What's still unclear
- Apple hasn't said how strictly App Review compares iPhone Duo screenshots with the app. We'll update this page once there are reports from real submissions.
- Apple has not published an exact day in April 2027 when iPhone Duo screenshots become required (Apple Developer News, October 5, 2026).
How Duo Screenshots handles this
Duo Screenshots delivers real captures of your simulator build, not designed frames or captions. A Full set covers iPhone 6.3" (1206 × 2622), iPhone Duo outer (1398 × 2034) and inner (native 2007 × 2853 or 2853 × 2007), plus iPad 13" (2064 × 2752) if your build supports iPad. Inner orientation isn't selectable or guaranteed and may vary between screenshots. We don't rotate or resize PNGs. A Duo set covers only the two Duo displays. Up to 6 screens per size, one language: up to 24 PNGs for a Full set with iPad, 18 for iPhone-only at the same price, or 12 for a Duo set.
Before delivery, every set is checked for size, black frames, the status bar and the number of screens. You upload the files yourself; App Store Connect takes one Duo set per language, inner by default. This isn't a guarantee of App Review approval. If App Review rejects your submission because of our screenshots, email hello@weelco.app within 30 days with the rejection message and we refund the order in full.
